One side of the elevator is on the Buffalo River while the opposite side is covered with train tracks. "Form follows function". Grain scooped from ships, stored and sent out by train.
Now the ledge on the river side is covered with bushes.
We plan to make a trip by canoe next time.

It is a great canoe trip from Smith St downriver to Ohio St. I did it the last two years with kids from the Valley Center as part of the Rigidized River Fest. The kids had many stories about their or their friends exploits inside the elevators.
